About Us

Child Poverty Solutions Wales, is a partnership project between Save the Children, Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) and the Welsh Government.

One in three of our children and young people living in Wales grows up in a context of poverty and disadvantage. They face daily adversity that has consequences for their educational attainment, their long term health, their aspirations for the future and their economic prospects. Many if these children and young people will grow up to raise their own children in the same context of poverty and disadvantage they experienced when they were young. This is a cycle that has consequences for us all and it must be broken.

Child poverty in Wales is complex and deeply rooted. The Public Authorities in Wales play an absolutely key role in tackling child poverty, without their continued support, investment and full engagement with this issue, things will continue as they are.

The aim of Child Poverty Solutions is to support the public authorities specifically named in the Children and Families (Wales) measure as having a duty to tackle child poverty to prioritise and mainstream action, in line with the Welsh Government's Child Poverty Strategy.

A steering group oversees the project, which draws on a diverse cross section of partners with the common aim of reducing child poverty in Wales.

Use the service area gateways on the home page to find information specific to each of the public authorities to help them in their fight to end child poverty by 2020.
